Get Involved
You can work with the BP and serve your community in a number of ways:
Volunteer
On Berkeley Project Day 2006, we had more than 1,000 Cal students out and about in Berkeley volunteering at various work sites. The following spring in 2007, we had a series of mini Berkeley Projects during the month of March. Every Saturday in March represented a differently themed service, with each of the days numbering approximately 100 volunteers devoting a day of service within the city of Berkeley. And the following fall in 2007, more than 1,500 Cal students again came out to volunteer across the city of Berkeley. This spring in 2008, we will again hold a series of mini projects across three days in March as BP Month. Everyone is welcome!
Site Leader
Each project site will need a Site Leader - a Cal student who will be a liaison between the volunteers and the community organization for which they are volunteering. The Site Leader will also ensure that the group of volunteers accomplishes their goals, understands the impact that they are having on the community, and most importantly has fun! As a Site Leader, you will have advanced registration, and you will attend a brief orientation/training session.BP Planner
Making the BP a continuing success requires planning. To become a part of this, you can join one of the planning committees.
Marketing
Publicize to the entire campus, creating a widely known, popular, and engaging image for the BP.
Recruiting
Contact, network with, and recruit student groups whose members would potentially take an active role in the project.
Fundraising
Raise the funds for the worksites and event costs. Communicate closely with other committees whose financial needs may change throughout the course of the planning process.
Site Planning
Develop and organize work sites for the BP Month and for next fall’s Berkeley Project. Collaborate with existing community organizations and student groups to create site projects. Design original projects based on needs and resources.
Website
Design and maintain a fully functional website that will handle event registration and provide information to anybody interested in getting involved.
Event Planning
Handle aspects of the Berkeley Project occurring on the day of the event that include but are not limited to: T-shirt design and printing, registration, opening/closing ceremonies, food, entertainment, transportation.
In order to take on the task of putting this huge day together, we work in these 6 committees, meeting throughout the week. Each group is integral to the success of BP and can definitely use your help! For a description of each, please visit the Planning Team Structure. If you are interested in helping out on the Planning Team come to one of our general meetings and/or contact the head of whichever committee interests you.
