March 3rd - Construction & Cleanup

Downtown Berkeley Cleanup 45 45 Clean up the Downtown Berkeley area between the Shattuck / Oxford / Dwight / University borders. Activities include litter pick up, repainting light posts, and general beautification of the area.
Adeline Street Cleanup 25 25 Clean up the South Berkeley area on Adeline Street. Activities include litter pick up, repainting light posts, and general beautification of the area.
Chaparral House 15 20 Chaparral House is a retirement home just a few blocks west of campus. We will be painting the exterior of the building and perhaps the gazebo in the backyard. Come ready to get down and dirty, to learn how to use paint rollers and to have tons of fun!
Schoolhouse Creek Commons 15 20 Aid in the preparation of constructing a playground in this community park by digging, weeding, and clearing the area.

Prisoner’s Literature Project 12 15 Package books to be sent off to individual prisoners.
Berkeley Youth Living with Disabilities 5 5 Spend a day baking cupcakes, picknicking and doing arts and crafts with mentally disabled children from the BUiLD house.
Mable Howard and Margaret Breland Homes 10 20 Participate in a day filled with fun activities and aerobics (titled the Silver Games) with the seniors from these two homes!
Berkeley Food and Housing Project 8 10 TBD
Homeless Action Center 8 10 Get ready to do some interactive work with the community, as we will be working with the homeless in the city of Berkeley, helping them fill out food stamp applications.
A Better Way 5 7 Help clean this center for foster children and families by washing windows and picking up litter outside. Sterilize the therapeutic toys for the children and infants so that they can have fun playing!
Berkeley Public Library 5 5 Volunteers will be working to create an artistic, creative fabric banner for the Children's Department of the Berkeley Public Library. Afterwards, volunteers will have the opportunity to work with kids directly at different arts and crafts booths.
Berkeley Marina Environmental Education Program* 25 30 Make the shorelines safe for humans by cleaning up the debris. The wildlife needs our help too!

March 17th - Greener Berkeley

Berkeley Public Health Clinic 10 15 Volunteers will be painting rooms, planting shrubs, making sexual education kits--beautifying the BPH building while promoting safer sex!
Claremont Canyon Conservancy 20 25 Clean up an area of Claremont Canyon (on the western slope of the Berkeley Hills) behind UC Berkeley's Clark Kerr campus.
People’s Park Community Garden 8 10 Help maintain one of the iconic areas of the city of Berkeley! Clean up plant beds, plant winter crops, and work with the homeless.
People’s Park Peace Garden 12 15 Make the People's Park Peace Garden look beautiful! The project will involve weeding, spreading mulch, and planting for the spring.
Native Here Nursery 5 10 Volunteers will be potting up seedlings and other plants, weeding, spreading gravel or mulch, and moving plants around within the nursery to help organize the area.
Halcyon Commons 15 20 The Halcyon Commons is a mini park created and maintained through a cooperation between community members, local businesses, and the city. The project on March 17th is for maintaining and beautifying this community-wide effort, with tasks such as weeding and clearing graffiti. Let's take part in this effort and show the city that Cal students are proud to be part the Berkeley community!
UCB Department of EH&S -- Strawberry Creek 20 25 TBD
Friends of Five Creeks 15 20 Half the volunteers' work will consist weeding on Cordonices Creek between 5th and 6th street, and the other half will be removing ice plants at the mouth of Strawberry Creek. After lunch, the teams will switch places, so everyone can join in on all the fun!
Berkeley Path Wanderers 10 12 Volunteers will be digging and clearing to prepare in building a step stone path.
